Re-Examining the Gender Gap in U.S. Unemployment

An examination of the United States’ gender gap: using U.S. state data, my findings
suggest that lower unemployment rates among women are mainly due to economic
necessity. Industry type (i.e., muscle work vs. care work), evolving family structure (single
parenthood), family laws, and cultural attitudes all play roles.
