RE:
Public Meeting May 3, 2016
On May 3rd, 2016, a public community meeting was held in the Hickory Grove Recreational Center community room at 6:00
pm for the presentation of the Linda Lake Park project. Representatives of Mecklenburg County and DPR were in attendance.
With the start of the meeting, Brian Bennett (Meck Co. Assett and Facility Management) introduced Anne Scott of DPR
Associates to provide a powerpoint presentation. This was the 3rd round of the design for Linda Lake Neighborhood Park to
the community attendees (the first presentation in January, 2nd to stakeholders meeting in March).
Overall, the response and feedback from attendees was positive.
Comments, questions and responses included:
- Regarding the entryway from Applecross Lane: will there be any sort of street paving turn around?
-- A: No we do not want to do anymore detriment to the environment and lack space within street right-of-way.
- Tributary name: isn't it called Delta Creek?
-- A: We will do further research to determine if that is the name.
- Mosquitoes: is there a plan to handle a possible mosquito problem that could arise?
-- A: The tributary is not on the City Stormwater improvements schedule. If future problem is determined, report will be
sent to appropriate agency to assist.
- Park hours: how will park hours be determined and enforced?
-- A: There will be no lighting system for the park; use hours will be from dawn to dusk. There will not be any
gates; bollards will be installed at entrance trails.
- Perennial plantings: Are those flowers planted at the entrances of the park? What kind will be planted there?
-- A: Park design will provide for installation of some plants. There will be opportunity for neighborhood residents or
garden clubs to coordinate with Park & Rec and participate in additional planting and maintenance of beds.
After the presentation and discussion, the public was given an opportunity to get a closer look at plan presentation boards
located at the rear of the room and discuss further with staff and design consultants.
