Philosophy of Care
Amanda Hanson understands that each person is unique in his or her beliefs, wants, and
perspective. She actively works to provide care that is customized to each individual and family
she sees. She believes that plans about genetic testing are personal to each individual and family.
Amanda's goal is to make patients comfortable, meet their emotional needs, assist families in need
of diagnosis, and give patients the knowledge they need to take charge of their health for the
future.
Clinical Interests
Amanda Hanson is a genetic counselor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Genomic
Medicine who sees families and patients of all ages for a variety of indications. She is the
Coordinator and genetic counselor for the Cardiovascular Genomics Clinic, and also serves as the
Coordinator for the Enzyme Replacement Therapy (ERT) program at UC Davis for patients with
Lysosomal Storage Disorders.
Amanda's particular interest in cardiovascular genetics inspired her to initiate the Cardiovascular
Genomics clinic at UC Davis, providing comprehensive genetics services to individuals with a
personal or family history of a suspected genetic cardiovascular condition. She provides
consultation regarding the suspected diagnosis, most appropriate genetic testing strategy, pre-test
counseling, and post-test results interpretation, along with providing support for the family with
resources and publications. She enjoys assisting families to achieve understanding of inherited
conditions, acting as a resource for individuals, and helping patients through difficult times and
complex decision making.
