Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, is in search of a full time, Board Certified/Board Eligible Genetic Counselor. The successful candidate will support the clinical laboratories by providing clinical laboratory consultation to physicians and other health providers, working closely with the clinical laboratory staff and geneticists and genetic counselors. He/she must be able to assess the patient’s clinical history and recommend genetic testing as appropriate. He/she will communicate testing results to physicians and health professionals ensuring that results are conveyed and understood. He/she will participate in collaborative efforts to improve utilization, quality, and reimbursement for the laboratory. He/she will also provide genetic counseling to patients undergoing laboratory testing. The successful candidate will screen and review all orders placed within the hospital for genetic tests. The ideal candidate must be proficient at maintaining internal records as well as records from outside testing facilities, and must be able to compile data and analyze for ordering trends and other measurable indicators. Opportunities exist for participation in clinical programs provided by the Division of Genetics, Birth Defects and Metabolism and for teaching in Northwestern University graduate program in Genetic Counseling. Experience is desirable but not required.
