Molecular Genetic Service South East of Scotland Genetic Services, Laboratory Medicine, Western General Hospital, Edinburgh Principal Clinical Scientist, Band 8A 37.5 hrs per week £39,239 to £47,088 Applications are invited from state registered clinical scientists in genetics for a permanent post in the East of Scotland Molecular Genetic Service. The fully CPA accredited laboratory provides both Regional and National Genetics Services. Experience in human genetics with a good grasp of the diagnosis of the common genetic disorders and evidence of considerable expertise in mutation screening techniques is essential. Patients referred with developmental delay are being offered extensive molecular testing in collaboration with the strong micro-array group in Cytogenetics. We are HFEA license holders and run a successful preimplantation genetic diagnostic service in collaboration with the assisted conception and embryology group at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The post holder will be expected to rise to the challenges associated with the delivery of highly complex routine testing but will also be involved in service development initiatives. We enjoy regular journal clubs, and there is a strong local seminar programme. Training in management skills is available where appropriate. The lab is superbly equipped benefiting from a strong research background and excellent links with various research groups. Applicants must be on the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) register as a genetic clinical scientist. Applicants must be in possession of FRCPath part 1. Preference will be given to candidates with experience of next generation sequencing approaches.
