Private Trucking Regulation
1. Exempt from Federal regulations pertaining to for-hire carriers.
2. Private fleets can haul freight for a fee for subsidiaries of the same parent firm
that are 100% owned by the parent firm.
3. Private carriers can haul commodities that are exempt from Federal economic
regulation—unprocessed ag. goods.
4. Private carriers can obtain common carrier authority to move freight on
backhauls.
5. Private fleets can trip lease their equipment to a common or contract carrier to
eliminate an empty backhaul.
6. Private carriers can trip lease equipment to move freight arranged by another
private carrier.
