IPCR Student Groups American University Negotiation Project American University Negotiation Project (AUNP) is a forum for those interested in practicing and improving their negotiation skills. AUNP hosts skills workshops, simulations and other events throughout the semester centered on these skills. AUNP also prioritizes hosting guest speakers to enhance our simulations and provide valuable background information for each specific topic. If you are interested in joining, email aunegotiationproject@american.edu Creative Peace Initiatives Creative Peace Initiatives (CPI) has a goal to promote creative peacebuilding locally and globally. CPI creates opportunities in the Washington, D.C. area for these initiatives through: (1) Service Program, (2) Trainings, Conferences and Speakers, (3) Networking Opportunities. Although currently inactive, we are looking for new members to join and revive the group. If you are interested in joining, email peace@american.edu Society for Peace and Conflict Resolution Society for Peace and Conflict Resolution (SPCR) seeks to empower IPCR students to become more engaged in international affairs, particularly global conflict resolution, peace activism, and social justice. SPCR also acts as an advocate for IPCR students among the SIS adminstration. There will be a SPCR meeting every Friday at 5 pm in SIS 348. Other News SIS 639.003: Media Relations in Conflict Zones There is still room in this hands-on Skills Institute where you will learn to develop productive media relationships and understand the role of public affairs during overseas humanitarian, reconstruction and peace-building interventions. Students will also learn how to recognize a communication crisis and prepare for crisis and reputation management. The course also covers management of press conferences, from planning to execution; delivering effective responses and methods to ensure mutually beneficial exchanges of information between organizations and the media. Useful for those building a career in all sectors of US government, international organizations and humanitarian NGOs. Media Relations in Conflict Zones, taking place November 7th and 8th, will be taught by Stefo Lehmann, a renowned expert in media relations, international development and the security sector. He worked a combined 18 years with U.N. Peacekeeping Forces, the U.S. defense community and the former U.S. Information Agency, leading strategic communication and public outreach programs in the U.S., Latin America, Learn more about Media Relations in Conflict Zones Africa and Central Europe.
