Catholic Relief Services, Program Manager II
Catholic Relief Services has worked in the Palestinian territories since the 1940s and established an office
in Jerusalem in 1961. Our programs, undertaken in partnership with an extensive network of local
organizations, aim to support peace with justice for all people in the Holy Land, while responding to the
humanitarian needs and development aspirations of the Palestinian people. Current CRS programs focus
on civil society development and institution building, peace building and youth development, food
security, livelihoods and educating people in the US about the situation in the Holy Land.
CRS is engaged in a broad spectrum of emergency response and early recovery programs in the Gaza
Strip. The Program Manager II will be responsible for direct management oversight of CRS' $10 million+
portfolio of humanitarian programming; supervision, coaching, and professional development of a
dynamic humanitarian response team; ensuring Gaza activities are strategically aligned with CP,
Regional, and Agency priorities; maintaining positive relationships with partners; and providing outreach
to local and international partners and organizations.

Book Talk: Civil Resistance and Conflict Transformation: Transitions from Armed to Nonviolent
Struggle by Veronique Dudouet, February 10
Veronique Dudouet will be visiting the School of International Service today to conduct a talk on her new
book, Civil Resistance and Conflict Transformation: Transitions from Armed to Nonviolent Struggle. It
explores the potentiality of an unarmed resistance as an alternative pathway out of armed conflicts, in
cases whether neither military (or counter-insurgency) nor negotiated solutions have succeeded. Dudouet
investigates the nature and drivers of changes from violence to nonviolence within self-determination,
revolutionary or pro-democracy struggles.
The book talk will take place today, February 10 from 7 – 8 pm in SIS 300.
Track-I Conversations “Finding Common Ground between Governments: The Israel-Lebanon
Monitoring Group” – February 13
Join the conversation with Ambassador David Greenlee, U.S. delegate of the Israel-Lebanon Monitoring
Group (1996-97), and Ted Feifer, Deputy Head of the U.S. delegation, and explore the strategies used to
exploit opportunities and manage challenges while facilitating an official dialogue process between
governments.
The event will be held in MGC 245 on Friday, February 13, from 9:30 to 10:30.

Heartbeat: Israeli + Palestinian Youth Musicians
Heartbeat, the Israeli-Palestinian youth music community, will launch their fourth US tour at American
University on February 21, 2015 to promote equality, empathy, and nonviolent action. The much
anticipated appearance at American University's Kay Spiritual Life Center will feature uplifting musical
performances of Heartbeat youth musicians' original compositions, interweaving traditional and modern
Eastern and Western music. Heartbeat musicians will also share their experiences of growing up amidst
the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, highlighting their creative effort to build a better future as members of

The concert will be held on Saturday, February 21, within AU’s Kay Spiritual Center (4400

International Conference and Festschrift on Abdul Aziz Said: The Mualim, The Inspiration
The purpose of this conference, taking place on March 19, is to honor Abdul Aziz Said, a legendary
thinker and humanitarian. The one-day international conference will bring together scholars and activists
