EDUCATIONAL NEED This course is designed to change physician competence regarding the criteria for diagnosing ultrasound abnormalities. Course participants’ evaluations and community physician annual needs assessment surveys have identified the need for cutting edge information about obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound. There have been recent changes to the new AIUM guidelines in the second and third trimester that will be explained in detail to the participants. Specific anomalies of the fetus including the cranial anomalies even those that may not be detected until the third trimester pregnancy will be detailed. Other anomalies such as those occurring in the fetal face, spine, or abdomen will be presented. There will be a specific detailed analysis on diagnosis and management of fetal cardiac disease. Early first trimester ultrasound including correlation between ultrasound and embryology will be presented. Additionally newer updates will be presented on topics such as carotid ultrasound and the use of Doppler and color flow in routine ultrasound practice. Review of the best approach for thyroid nodules will be presented as well as the sonographic evaluation of etiology of pain and bleeding of the second and third trimester of pregnancy. The course will specifically address the identified educational needs and provide practitioners with state-of-the-art tools and provide improved treatment options for their patients. The faculty presenting and interacting with participants at this activity have been selected on the basis of their comprehensive clinical experience and academic excellence.
