Job Title: Assistant Dean Department Name: Dean of Engineering Campus: Manhattan Starting date: March 1, 2016 (or negotiable) Job Summary: The Assistant Dean for Student Services provides academic oversight and administers academic policies and procedures for undergraduate programs of the college. Qualifications: Responsibilities: The successful candidate must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline and a master’s degree in engineering or related discipline; preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. degree in engineering or related disciplines. Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong administrative abilities; excellent interpersonal skills; strong organizational skills; and demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Other preferred qualifications include experience with university/college academic programs including teaching, advising, enrollment and related processes. The Assistant Dean for Student Services provides direction and supervision for all academic functions associated with the Office of Student Services, from initial enrollment of incoming undergraduate students to degree audits for seniors; serves as chair of the reinstatement committee; provides leadership in developing and recommending changes in academic policies for enhancing undergraduate student retention and improving overall undergraduate student academic performance; provides timely recommendations for enrollment management to the appropriate faculty inside and outside the college; serves on university committees/task forces on academic policies and procedures; supports efforts that enhance a positive climate for diversity and inclusion; provides oversight for advising and academic progress of undergraduate students with academic difficulties, all international undergraduate students and study abroad undergraduate students; provides oversight of undergraduate course and curriculum processes, transcript analysis, course substitutions, student dismissals, and other related processes; provides College of Engineering oversight and leadership for the fall and spring commencement ceremonies; serves as the college resource person for liaison committees, and serves as faculty advisor for student organization(s) in the college.
