Anna Zinovyeva Division of Biology Kansas State University MicroRNAs are small non-coding RNAs that, together with Argonaute proteins, posttranscriptionally regulate expression of many genes. A key step during microRNA biogenesis is the selection of one dominant microRNA strand from a double-stranded RNA precursor. I will describe identification and characterization of a new set of mutations in C. elegans Argonaute ALG-1 that reveal a novel role for Argonaute in microRNA strand selection. In addition, I will describe an approach to identify and characterize factors that may function in microRNA strand selection.
