COBRE Phase III: Novel Approaches for the Control of Microbial Pathogens Request for Pilot Project Applications Overview: Applications are requested for up to $55,000 for pilot projects to be funded by the COBRE grant entitled Novel Approaches for the Control of Microbial Pathogens. We plan to fund at least one 1-year pilot project application. Letter of Intent Submission Deadline: December 30, 2015 Application Submission Deadline: January 29, 2016 Funding Dates: August 1, 2016 – July 31, 2017 Eligibility: Research must fall within the area of the central theme of the COBRE program. The research theme is centered on mechanisms inhibiting replication of pathogenic microbes, with the longterm goal of controlling infectious diseases important in human health. A. Investigators should not have received prior R01-type support from the NIH or other institutions (such as American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, NSF, DOD) or if the investigator has R01-type support, the research proposed for COBRE support should have a different focus and specific aims from the funded project. B. Eligible participants include tenured and tenure-track faculty at the PhD granting institutions in the state of Kansas. C. At least one aim of the pilot project proposal must use the existing flow cytometry core. Award Amount: We will fund at least one award of up to $55,000 in direct costs. Resubmission applications are welcome. Junior faculty should include a mentor and additional salary support for the mentor will be provided and should not be included in the $55,000 budget.
