creating a text about their favorite place with
supporting evidence e.g. why, where.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Investigate the processes of weathering.
Consider the impact of weathering on Loch
Lomond.
Investigate the glacial activity in Loch Lomond.
Explore the formation of a corrie.
Reflect on their writing task and develop it further
to create an advert/ animation to persuade
people to visit their favourite place.
Read different kinds of texts including scientific
reports and draw conclusions about the different
conventions.

NUMERACY
Collect data from both their science and
geography learning opportunities.
Use a spreadsheet to analyse their findings.

explore the environment and relate it to their
experience.
This interdisciplinary approach shows some possible learning
opportunities which link to the experience and outcome codes
shown. These are ideas for starting points, though, and could be
amended with other links depending on your context. In this
example we have highlighted a lead curriculum area, however, to
suit needs and interests a different curriculum area could easily be
used.
LEAD CURRICULUM AREA - SCIENCE
Study different types of rocks.
Compare the rocks in their local environment using their knowledge
of types of rocks.
Describe the formation of the rocks, soil and minerals.
Select and analyse samples of water and soil from Loch Lomond.
Track chemical reactions of H2O e.g. rain and its effect on the loch
or rains effect on the soil.
Investigate the biodiversity in and around the loch consider why it is
important to measure this.
