LITERACY AND ENGLISH Explore the work of artists and writers who have written about Loch Lomond and consider the linguistic and literal connotations. Interdisciplinary planning approach Loch Lomond Third level Use the above knowledge as a stimulus for creating a text about their favorite place with supporting evidence e.g. why, where. Use a spreadsheet to analyse their findings. Present their findings in an appropriate way. e.g. pie chart etc Use a scientific calculator for biodiversity calculations. Further develop their skills in map reading to explore the environment and relate it to their experience. This interdisciplinary approach shows some possible learning opportunities which link to the experience and outcome codes shown. These are ideas for starting points, though, and could be amended with other links depending on your context. In this example we have highlighted a lead curriculum area, however, to suit needs and interests a different curriculum area could easily be used. LEAD CURRICULUM AREA - SCIENCE Study different types of rocks. Compare the rocks in their local environment using their knowledge of types of rocks. Describe the formation of the rocks, soil and minerals. Select and analyse samples of water and soil from Loch Lomond. Track chemical reactions of H2O e.g. rain and its effect on the loch or rains effect on the soil. Investigate the biodiversity in and around the loch consider why it is important to measure this.
