Assistant Professor, Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio: The Department of History, Politics, and Justice at Ohio
Northern University seeks a dynamic, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Geography to begin Fall of 2016. The successful
candidate will teach introductory courses in Geography, including Introduction to GIS. The area of specialization is open,
although demonstrated experience or interest in public health or environmental studies is desirable. The successful candidate
will also have an important role in developing Geography at Ohio Northern. This individual will have many opportunities to
collaborate with faculty in the department and across campus. In addition to exceptional teaching and research skills, the
successful candidate will have experience or demonstrable interest in working closely with students in research, advising, and
the supervision of student groups. The department is also interested in candidates who can contribute to departmental efforts to

Assistant Professor, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico: The Department of Geography &
Environmental Studies at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a probationary appointment leading to a tenure
decision at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will contribute to research, teaching and academic life in
the department and will have expertise in Geographic Information Science (GISscience). Candidates should be capable of
teaching courses across our spatial methods curriculum and supporting Master’s (and eventually PhD) students in a variety of
projects that range from spatial analysis and modeling to spatial statistics and geovisualization, all while maintaining an active
research agenda in GISscience. Candidates whose research engages with Latin America will be given preference in the hiring

Assistant Professor, Kutztown University, Kutztown, Pennsylvania: The Department of Geography at Kutztown University
invites applications for a tenure-track position in GIScience to begin in the Fall 2016 semester at the rank of Assistant
Professor. Ph.D. in Geography required. Applicants must have relevant training and two years (or equivalent) of college-level

Assistant Professor, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Charlotte, North Carolina: The Department of Geography
and Earth Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte) is recruiting a tenure-track Assistant
Professor specializing in hydrometeorology or ecohydrology with expertise broadly related to characterizing water-landatmosphere interactions at multiple spatial and temporal scales. The position will begin August 2016. Required qualifications
are: 1) a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences, or related discipline by the time of appointment; 2) the ability to
develop and maintain an externally funded research program; 3) the ability to contribute to undergraduate and graduate
curricula consistent with departmental needs; and 4) the ability to contribute to the Department’s interdisciplinary teaching and
research mission. The department welcomes candidates whose experience in teaching, research, and community service has

GIS Manager, University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama: The University of Alabama, Department of Geography invites

day operations of the University Map Library, a collection of maps, air photos and geospatial data, and requires management
of: student employees and interns; budgets; map library reference service; collection development; and public relations. Duties

is July 1, 2016. The department seeks a scholar who will establish and maintain an active research program in the area of Urban
GIS with the ability to secure external research funding. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected produce high
impact urban research and scholarship and play an important role in teaching and research supervision of students in the

Assistant Professor, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio: The Department of Geography at the University of
Cincinnati invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in health/medical/population geography
beginning in August, 2016. A Ph.D. in Geography or related field is required by the start of employment. We are looking for
individuals with a strong background in GIS and data science who will excel at conducting research and providing graduate and
undergraduate instructions using quantitative approaches. Applicants must have expertise in GIS, spatial analysis and
geovisualization and accomplishments in one or more of the following research areas: medical geography, epidemiology, health
disparities, environmental impacts on health, public health, spatial accessibility to health services, and/or geodemographics. The

Student Opportunity
Colleen Hinder, Assistant Professor of Geography at Texas State University will lead a study abroad course this upcoming
summer to central Italy. The “Texas State to Tuscany” program is worth six (transferable) university credits at the
undergraduate, masters, or PhD level. Students do not need to be enrolled at Texas State University to participate. Students of
this course will be in country for four weeks and will live in three different regions of Central Italy: Marche, Umbria, and
Tuscany. Course dates are May 28 – June 25, 2016. Topics to be covered in the courses are the Geography of Food and
Agriculture and Rural Sustainability. The program is designed to be hands-on and experiential, meaning each week there are
multiple tours, tastings, excursions, and workshops. The price for the four-week program is $5576 and includes: tuition for two
3-credit courses, international health and travel insurance, all in-country transportation, all in-country lodging, all
