Award
University Distinguished Professor, Richard A. Marston, was awarded the 2016 Melvin G. Marcus Distinguished Career
Award by the American Association of Geographers (AAG) Geomorphology Specialty Group at the recent annual meeting in
San Francisco. The Melvin G. Marcus Distinguished Career Award is presented to an individual who has made significant
contributions to geomorphology over his/her career. Marston was cited for his "...deep, deep dedication to students, a love of
mountains and the field experience, a sustained record of introducing students to that experience, top level research, and a
commitment to the discipline above-and-beyond anything that is even vaguely reasonable. He has profoundly and positively
affected multiple generations of future scholars, resource managers, and environmentalists through his work, as did Melvin
Marcus, after whom the award is named."
