UC. Renaissance Art would add to the existing Ancient Art course for
Honors students. The two courses will be written in spring 2013.
SLO Assessment Progress: In a sentence or two, describe where your department should be on the Revolving Wheel of Assessment (what
assessment you should have done in the last year) and what was actually done. If not every thing was completed, explain why.
The Art History Program experienced the first full complement of instructors at a Flex day SLO meeting, one contract and five adjuncts, in eight
years. We assessed seven courses in the spring term of 2012 in Critical Thinking, Analysis and Problem Solving, and will be adding at least
three, perhaps two more in the fall term. The momentum from the Spring carried over into the fall with everyone attending the SLO meeting in

August. AH 10, Art Appreciation Online, was scheduled for assessment for this fall term and is still in progress. AH 11 Honors will be assessed
in the Spring of 2013 for the first time. AH 16, Southeast Asian Art, has not been assessed recently due to loss of the only qualified instructor in
the field. We expect to teach the course within the next academic year and hope to assess it when it is offered. Two new courses will be written
in Spring of 2013, Traditional Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, as well as Honors Renaissance Art. Neither of these will be offered in
time to be assessed for the yearly update report in fall of 2013.

Priorities identified for program as a result of assessment. Example:
Develop strategies for teaching research and documentation skills; share
rubrics for research papers; provide more instructional support outside of
class.
SLO responsibilities were reviewed, including Core Competencies
Assignments, rubrics and results.
Art History discussed the wide range of assignments in the courses
assessed. The most difficult assignments had 60-80% of the students
receive a C or better. One class had a 90% rate. That number was
eventually found to be a fluke of the class at that one point in time. It was a
non-honors class with honors like students and results. SLO assignments
that were assessed tended to be the most challenging requirements in every
class. We discussed various in class preparations we could make to
improve success rates.
The February 2013 flex meeting will introduce the Core Competency for
the year and review the fall term assessments as well as in class strategies
for assignment success.
