There is a checklist going around also determining how many people would be available from 2:30-5:30pm as well, as there is already one senator who will not be able to hold their seat due to the time of the meetings. This form will also be at the meeting next week, so please check the catalog if you have not already done so to determine your schedule for the Spring semester. The Watsonville meeting will be held at the same time as the Aptos meeting, ie; if we host Aptos meetings at 3pm, Watsonville meetings will begin at 3pm also. Charlotte brought in cupcakes. Happy Birthday Charlotte! VI. VII. New Business A. Social Justice Conference Info. / Action L. Hunerberg 10 Minutes This item is up for discussion / possible action regarding the approval of $2500.00 from the ____ Account in order to help fund the Social Justice Conference this Spring. The speakers have not been decided yet, as they are waiting on funding to determine who they are able to ask to come to the event. The theme is based on shaping the future. There is going to be a post-conference publication and they will have a cover-design-contest also with a prize that will be rewarded from this fund. In addition, the fund will cover paying for the printing of the publication. There is a meeting for people interested in helping tomorrow at 10am. Around 200 people showed up for the event last year, but there have been as many as 350 in the past and we are aiming for a high attendance like that this year as well. There will be advertising done in the community, and one of the performance groups they are interested in having are from the UC, so hopefully those things combined can bring in more attendance from the community. There is only about $3500 remaining in the conferences account, and we need to keep in mind that there is still an entire semester to fund. Senator Hunerberg moves to approve $1250 from the Conferences account and $1250 from the Lecture Series account in order to help fund the Social Justice Conference this spring, and Treasurer Gomez seconds the motion and the discussion continues. The standard honorary for a keynote speaker is $1000 and then we also need to consider travel expenses that may or may not be necessary to cover. This motion goes to vote and is approved unanimously by a vote of 15 yeas. B. Reimbursing Money Lost to Copy Machines Info. / Action F. Chacòn 10 Minutes This item is up for discussion / possible action regarding the approval of $150.00 from the ____ Account so that students who’s money gets eaten by the copy machines on all three campuses, which we receive the income from, can get refunded. This could be taken from the 73 account for only half of the machines; not for the ISC and not at the CTC. Trustee Watkins moves to approve $150 from the _______account so that students who’s money gets eaten by the copy machines on all three campuses, which we receive the income from, can get refunded, and Treasurer Gomez seconds the motion and discussion continues. This would be like a pool of money similar to how our vending machine refunds work. It will be for future use, and there would be a log at the student affairs desk to track the refunds. Trustee Watkins calls this item to question and Senator Steele seconds the motion and it goes to vote. This item is approved unanimously by a vote of 16 yeas. C. Governing Board Report Info. / Discussion J. Watkins 10 Minutes Joseph Watkins emailed to everyone the grants that the governing board approved. There was a virtual lab initiative which provides a virtual environment for the computers. This virtual environment would help with computer repairs, electricity uses and many other positive benefits. Cabrillo is participating in mitigating climate change and put forth initiatives for clean energy, which was passed by student senates across California. The redistricting update is out and is available to view at Cabrillo.edu/association/governingboard. The Census report is also available and includes the reports from the first two weeks of the semester. Steve Hodges sent an email document that Joseph Watkins will forward to you regarding the budget and the SB1445 student success taskforce legislation. See Joseph Watkins if you are curious about this. D. Having last Meeting of Semester After Finals Info. / Discussion C. Achen 10 Minutes This item is up for discussion regarding the possibility of having a last meeting of the semester on December 22nd so th that we can have a small celebration. Currently, our last meeting is on Dec. 8 in Watsonville. Charlotte wanted to leave it up to the senate to decide if a meeting should be held after finals. Some people will be out of town and it would be after the last day of the semester so it doesn’t have to be mandatory. It was discussed that this could be a time to do an overview of the semester and look at the budget for next semester, but the idea was opposed since many others were not going to be present at this meeting. It was then decided that these topics would th be discussed at a different date. It was asked if we could move the December 8 meeting to the Aptos campus but was declined by President Achen. More questions arose about the purpose of this meeting and whether people could attend. A handful of senators stated they were able to attend, so a non-mandatory meeting has been scheduled for th Friday, December 16 , at 3pm. Executive Officers President: Charlotte Achen Thank you Carter for putting together the holiday tree- it’s a “every holiday” tree. We’re looking for a replacement for CPC next year. Fill up your piggy’s and collect food. Second Harvest meeting tomorrow at 11am. Vice President: Oleksii Chuiko Reports are not being received from everyone. I brought an example of a good one done by Charlotte. Maybe next year we could do it better- we could have an archive of submitted reports for the student senators in the future so they are able to become more aware. Please send electronic versions of the reports so I am able to put them in the dropbox Treasurer: Joseph Gomez The budget committee met today and we advised a college wide reports letter Legislative Representative: Gaby Avila no report th Student Trustee: Joseph Watkins SCCCC is meeting again on December 9 - please let me know if you are interested in attending. Senators-at-Large Stephanie Petrillo no report Jennifer Venegas absent Sharon O’Connor There is a meeting tomorrow at 11. If you can do the farmers markets please see me after the meeting Arthur O’Reilly everyone in PR committee- we meet tomorrow at 2pm but I want to move it up a half hour if possible Kathybelle Barlow absent Darwin Constantino I went to faculty senate meeting- they are hiring four new faculty members for rad. tech, biology, technology, and political science. The student success task force- the next bookstore committee meeting th Dec 6 3pm room 804a- There’s a lot of overlap between two committees so they are thinking of combining them. On st behalf of AGS, the teacher-staff appreciation dinner is Dec 1 and we could use some help. The computers in the senate office have a lot of problems-they are constantly resetting- we want to work with IT on getting that fixed Chris Steele I double checked our fax machine number for our cards and the manual faxing is not working so we sent an email to the IT department to get it fixed. Also, I have been trying to go to different places on campus and I went to the art museum- it’s called “Without Art” and is geared towards a life without art Jesse Collins no report Sage Goncharoff no report James Williams no report Laura Hunerberg The furniture committee met- we will soon have samples to check out Cynthia Maiorino “Summer” We can actually have our own laptops that we use on the hard lines but we need to get it approved by an advisor C. Advisors 5 minutes ea. Sesario Escoto – The all-Cabrillo emails do not work. If you need to send something you need to use the all-campus newsletter. It’s important that the ICC is aware of this too so that we can notify people of things in advance. The staff wants to know about things too so please include them. Reminder to the students and the ICC: you do not have the authority to hire contractors. Those people are going to come in here and do the work and they are not going to get paid. Please don’t split funds in one motion- these split motions have never gone well and have always caused problems. If you want to defecit spend, send it to the budget committee to do a budget transfer, which is much easier. As for the copy refunds, we think $150 will last the whole year. It’s not about making money in this case but about providing a service to your constituents, and giving them their money back if they didn’t get their copies. Flor Chacòn- Did you see the thermometer? It is for the Second Harvest drive. We have 1000 pounds and our goal th is 40,000 so we have a lot to go until December 14 . Its faculty and us- so the push comes from us! Keep your piggy’s with you and collect!.The thermometer is a good way to monitor ourselves. Don’t forget about Thanksgiving dinner: Monday at Watsonville 5pm setup, Tuesday at Aptos 5pm setup- food served from 6-8pm- we need your help at this! VIII.
