Food Co-op Location Info. / Action B. Buckter 10 Minutes This item is up for discussion / possible action regarding the student senate supporting the Food Co-op having a location on campus for their club. Last week a student attended the Senate meeting to let the Senate know that he was on a food strike until a location for the Food Co-op could be found. He is no longer fasting and since then, the Food Co-op members have met with Sesario and found potential locations. One location is in front of the Administration Building, where there is a gazebo that is not being used. The Food Co-op will continue to pursue finding a location. Please network around campus and help in finding a location for the Food Co-op. There has been a lot of communication with Ted Nyguen, the facilities planner, and the Food Co-op will continue to look for a location under his instruction. The Food Co-op serves as an educational club. It’s based around the interest of Food Justice. Which is providing good nutritional food to , marginalized, impoverished, and underrepresented persons. Spreading awareness about food inequalities in terms of access, quality and organizing community efforts are goals of the Food Co-op. A central location is needed so that food can be stored for a day, such as but not limited to fresh donated vegetables from farmers market, that would be available for students. The Cafeteria proposal would not be an appropriate space because it would require a long term, and on-going commitment on the cafeterias behalf which is not likely. Please be mindful of this demand by our constituents and support them to your greatest capacities. C. Senate Office Policies Info. / Discussion C. Frost 20 Minutes This item is up for discussion regarding the Student Senate office policies. There are established office policies that are not being reinforced. There have been random pieces of paper around the office In regards to office equipment, the current understanding is that the equipment is for senate use only. We need to address what type of policy do we want in place. We need to also address the question of how will we enforce the rules. Perhaps the senate offices should have a coin jar for printing costs. We should consider what’s fair between students and senators – they pay 10 cents were we would pay 2 cents. We should also set a foundation for the next senate to build on. We need to consider, in terms of basic supplies including clear tape, staplers, if they should be available for student use. It is clear that blue tape is for senate use only. In terms of computers senators can use computers as long as senate work does not need to be done. With regards to students using senate computers students, they cannot use computers in the senate offices. The issue of students building a feeling of entitlement to use computers in the senate office can create problems between senators and students, which we should avoid. The senate agrees that printing expenses will be based on an “I-O-U” log and when senators are able to pay, they will pay accordingly. Carter moved to approve by 5 minutes. Cedar seconded the motion. Motion failed. Please review the current Senate Office Policies. Please be prepared to have a follow up discussion item during next week’s meeting. VIII. Committee Reports 3 minutes ea. Safety Committee – Met last Friday and it was recommended that we restrict the smoking policies so that there would be no second hand smoke on campus. They are suggesting that smoking boxes be created, and a teared citation system. Tech Advisory Committee – During last weeks meeting, we discussed alert-u and it went well. There are currently 5 independent notification systems at Cabrillo, so there was a lot of overlap. One in particular announces to leave buildings when it’s not safe. A new notification message system will be implemented were flash signs will appear on text e-boards. The STEM Building is in line to open in July of 2013. More smart classrooms will be implemented around campus. Public Relations – Meeting tomorrow at 2 p.m. Student Health Services – Met today and reviewed budget and last year’s budget. The committee is struggling to find more funding so that the Student Health Services can move to a larger and more appropriate location. Faculty Senate – Discussed presidential hiring committee. There are currently 5 candidates. Also, Cabrillo College’s student success score card ranks a bit lower than the nation averages, so that is something interest to note. MOOCs – The committee reported that the senate’s opinions offered last week were valuable and helpful. 2 Associated Students of Cabrillo College Aptos Campus, 6500 Soquel Dr., Aptos, CA 95003 Watsonville Center: 318 Union St., Watsonville, CA 95076 Scotts Valley Center: 104 Whispering Pines Dr., Scotts Valley, CA 95066 Voice: 831.477.5677 Fax: 831.479.6172 http://www.cabrillo.edu/ascc IX.
