STUDENT LETTER: CHEMISTRY Hello LQ Students and welcome to Room 333! My name is Mrs. Tang and I will be your tour guide through introductory chemistry for the 2015-16 school year. My hope is that this class will do the following: 1) deepen your appreciation for the wonders and workings of our natural world and the realm of human discovery; and, 2) motivate you to pursue scientific study as a college major or career field. You may be wondering what is it that you’ll be learning in chemistry class, and, more importantly, does it involve a lot of math? The answer to the second part of the question is yes, we will be doing A LOT of math, useful math to help you prepare for Physics, AP Chemistry, and beyond. The good news is that you will be able to use a calculator to do all of your computational work. Our overall mission in this class is to sharpen your problem solving skills, prepare you for the rigors of higher education, and have some fun along the way! In order to create and maintain a positive learning environment for everyone, behavioral expectations must be set and abided by. In this first week, we will be going over the course syllabus and rehearsing our classroom routines. You’ll also be required to have your parents sign an acknowledgement page to make sure that they know everything that is expected of you in this class. If you have any questions as we review these documents, please do not hesitate to ask. Lastly, I’d like to share a simple equation that is my motto for learning (and life), and serves as the simple formula for success in my classroom: EFFORT = RESULTS If you put forth an honest effort in your studies, you’ll see positive results! Here’s to a great year! Mrs. Tang Room 333 mtang@ggusd.us
