Lesson Plan Title: Primary Subject Integrated Subjects Grade Level(s) Length of Lesson Research Sources Science Technology 5 1 Elementary Science with Vernier (2008) Lesson Summary Students will experiment to become familiar with using the Go! Motion vernier sensors. Key Vocabulary motion NC Essential Standards For Science 5.P.1.1 Explain how factors such as gravity, friction, and change in mass affect the motion of objects. Commor Core Standards for Mathematics Common Core Standards for ELA & Literacy NC Essential Standards For Technology SafritDaniel 5.TT.1.1 Use a variety of technology tools to gather data Essential Questions How does gravity affect motion? Explore/Engage: Students will experiment with dropping a book from different distances in from of the motion sensor. They will follow the directions in the lab book to learn how to use the sensor properly. Explain: After data collection and experimentation the class will discuss their finding. Elaborate: The class will discuss ways to ensure they had proper data collection so that the next lesson on force and motion will be conducted properly. Evaluate: The teacher will collect and review their data and evaluate student participation in the lesson. Accommodations for Differentiated Instruction Visual: The teacher will project the logger lite program to the white board. Auditory: The motion sensors can emit a beeping sound to alert the student to movement. Kinestetic: The student can dramatize the motion. Cross Curricular Integration Students will discuss their motion data that was collected on the vernier lab quests.
