Course Objectives The goal of learning a world language is to enable students to communicate effectively and appropriately in a given language and at the level of each course. The program focuses on the receptive skills of listening, reading and the productive skills of speaking and writing. Knowing a world language can also lead to rewarding career opportunities. Students can be eligible for the special Seal of Biliteracy seal stamped on your diploma if you meet the criteria. II. Student Conduct Please come to class with a positive attitude, stay on task and behave appropriately. 1st Offense “Think Sheet”=Call Home=Warning 2nd “Think Sheet”=Call Home/Detention 15 min 3rd “Think Sheet”=Call Home/Referral to counselor 4th “Think Sheet”=Call Home/Referral to Assistant Principal If the offense is severe, student will be sent directly to office/call home A. Detentions (see LQ Agenda Policy) Detentions are at 7:30 am/after school in room 210 III. Classroom Ethics CHEATING/PLAGIARISM on tests/quizzes, using translators to do the work for you, and copying someone else’s homework is NOT TOLERATED. This also applies to students who allow others to copy their homework. Please note that this serves as your first and only warning. IV. Homework and Classwork Policy 5 I will walk around to check HW and credit will be given. Late assignments will be accepted ONLY the next day and given ½ credit. 1. Students have the same number of days to do the HW as they were absent. 3. It must be complete for credit. 4. Homework/Classwork etc. will be graded periodically and counted as a quiz. VI. Grading Policy The grading scale is based on the following percentages: A= 90%, B= 80%, C=70%, D=60%, F= less than 60% There will be pop quizzes. Pop quizzes can be given in class at anytime. The tests consists of listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, written paragraph in Spanish or project/presentation, and a written paragraph on the culture when applicable. Grade Percentages are: 60% (Summative)- Culminating work such as exams, FINAL etc 40% (Formative-) Practice work (quizzes, etc) VII. Participation Students must participate! English is only spoken when the teacher gives the OK. VIII. Tardy Policy I will be following this policy as dictated in your student handbook. IX.
