Jeff Sine is cofounder and partner of the Raine Group, a global merchant bank focused
exclusively on the technology, media, and telecommunications industries with offices in New
York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Shanghai, and London. He is a board member of each of
Raine’s growth and venture equity funds as well as its hedge fund. He is also a board member of
Parchment, Inc., Reigning Champs, Inc., and OpenMail, Inc., portfolio companies of Raine.
Prior to founding Raine, Sine was vice chairman and global head of technology, media, and
telecom investment banking at UBS Investment Bank. He joined UBS in April 2001 and
became a board member in 2003. Before that time, since 1991, Sine had been global head of
media investment banking at Morgan Stanley. His clients have included many of the leading
global media, technology, and communications companies, including Viacom, Google, Time
Warner, News Corporation, Sony, Bertelsmann, Comcast, Cox Communications, Thomson,
Softbank, Microsoft, AT&T, Disney, and many others. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Sine was an
attorney at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York and London.
He is a current or past board member of the Manhattan Theatre Club, International Radio
and Television Society, Museum of Television and Radio Media Center, University of
Southern California–Annenberg School of Communication/Law Center Joint Venture,
Educational Testing Service, and American University. He has also produced many plays and
musicals over the past two decades on Broadway and in London’s West End and is a threetime Tony Award winner.
Through Sine’s vision and generosity, AU REACH was established in 2015 to create a
formalized program that exemplifies AU’s commitment to provide students with a variety of
opportunities to engage with issues through academics, research, investigation, and personal
experiences. Through AU REACH, students make meaningful contributions to communities
or organizations at home and abroad, tapping into the university’s vast connections in DC
and around the world.
Sine earned a bachelor’s degree from AU, where he serves as a member of the Board of Trustees
and is a past chair of the board. He also holds a JD from the University of Southern California.
He lives in New York City with his wife Samira and three children, Roan, Shailen, and Maya.
His oldest son, Jonathon, is a senior at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

Established in 1981, the President’s Circle honors five US presidents who were friends
of American University. Through the President’s Circle and its recognition levels,
we gratefully acknowledge leadership in philanthropy demonstrated by AU alumni,
parents, faculty, staff, and friends. Benjamin Harrison signed the Act of Congress
chartering the university in 1893. William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, and
Herbert Hoover served on AU’s Board of Trustees. John F. Kennedy delivered
his famous Strategy of Peace speech at the 1963 AU Commencement.
