VI. OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS 31. Why did yo u cho o se this pro gram?

I wanted to impro ve my Ko rean language skills fo r bo th my pro fessio nal and perso nal lives. I wanted to have a greater understanding o f my Ko rean culture.
I wanted to go to Ko rea and experience so mething new. I wanted to learn the language and meet Ko reans who co uld help me learn the language and culture.
Tho ugh I was Ko rean, I never studied in Ko rea, and wanted to experience the Ko rean culture.
I wanted to travel to Ko rea (try to learn the language, meet o ther Ko reans, and learn abo ut the culture)
wanted to go to ko rea

34. Ho w, if at all, do es the structure o f the co urses differ fro m tho se at
USC? Did yo u like o r dislike these differences?
T e xt Re spo nse
The co urses at SNU to o k attendance in all classes; missing mo re than 3-4 classes resulted in auto matic failure o f the co urse. The pro fesso rs at SNU also lectured straight
fro m Po werPo int slides mo re. I did no t like either o f these differences.
The structure differs a bit. Much mo re is required o f yo u in certain classes than at USC. I bo th liked the difference and disliked it.
There was a lo t o f gro up pro jects o utside o f scho o l, but that's similar to USC Marshall, and I liked the gro up pro jects in general because I go t to kno w my gro up members
very well. It was a much mo re perso nal relatio nship at SNU.
Classes are no t 4 units - instead they are 3 units (o ne 3-ho ur class per week). I did no t like attending these 3 ho ur classes because it felt way to o lo ng. Mo st o f the students
typically lo st interest due to the length.
mo re memo rizatio n than critical thinking attendance is VERY impo rtant
I was able to take no n-finance co urses. I really liked these because I felt like I diversified my kno wledge.

35. Are there co urses o r pro fesso rs that yo u wo uld particular
reco mmend? Please explain:
T e xt Re spo nse
Special To pics in Business Administratio n because it is the easiest way to meet a lo t o f the exchange students.
I wo uld reco mmend Business Ethics with pro fesso r Kim Wo o jin. The pro fesso r was very articulate in English and helped me understand the subject o f Co rpo rate
Go vernance better.
I reco mmend taking Ko rean classes if yo u are able to keep up with the lectures, because the pro fesso rs are much mo re articulate when talking in their native language. If
yo u ask, mo st pro fesso rs let yo u turn in yo ur repo rts in English, so it wasnt to o bad fo r me.

T e xt Re spo nse
When traveling within Ko rea, use KTX (train) and cheap airlines to save co st. It helps to have a Ko rean speaker o n these trips.
Ko rea is no t really travelling to different places and to urist attractio ns. After a few times, yo u realize that many things in Ko rea are pretty much the same. Thus, what's
co nsidered impo rtant in Ko rea is who yo u're with, no t where yo u're go ing, which is why we were co ntent with staying aro und campus :)

Go as many places as yo u can, especially to Japan and o ther parts o f Asia. It'll be so much cheaper to travel fro m Ko rea than to go to Japan o r o ther parts o f Asia fro m the
