Minutes of the Last Meeting a) Agreement of Minutes • The minutes of the last meeting were agreed to be correct and accurate b) Matters Arising • The issue of out-of-hours heating was brought up at the staff meeting held on 6th January. PG students are advised to contact the PG Coordinator if they require individual heaters for out-of-hours work: S.M.Tatlock@warwick.ac.uk • The SU’s Societies Officer was contacted regarding the use of the Physics concourse as a rehearsal space. While the problem is investigated by the SU, PG students affected by inappropriate use of the concourse should keep a record of any incidents (time, place, society involved) and report them to the PG-SSLC. 3. Social Events The next social event will be a trip to Laser Quest in Coventry at the beginning of next month. Interest should be registered with the social secretary: C.B.Antunes- Casteleiro@warwick.ac.uk 4. Any other business a) Greenway/Connect2 project update The work on this cycle/walkway beween Kenilworth and the University will commence this month for 12 weeks. A ‘road bike friendly’ surface has been installed Physics PG-SSLC Minutes 13th January 2012 and will ease the commute to University for students cycling from Kenilworth. A map of the new route can be found on the project’s website: http://kenilworthfootpaths.org.uk/connect2/ b) PGCert Transferable Skills All materials for the PGCert in Transferable Skills are now online and are therefore folders for the course are no longer distributed during induction week: http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/pioneers/pgcts/ A session will be organised by the department to introduce the course. This will be primarily aimed at new PG students. c) Elections • Stephen Day was elected as Milburn House representative. • There is still no representation from CFSA, Particle Physics or Theory. d) SSLC Meeting As a result of a recent SU meeting, a list of four ‘Best Practices’ for SSLCs was drawn up: • Creation of a Facebook group for each SSLC • Points of Interest highlighted when minutes are distributed by email • Addition of an FAQ section to individual SSLC websites • Addition of photographs of SSLC representatives to SSLC webpages It was agreed to go ahead with the latter three points but did not feel a Facebook page would be appropriate for a PG-SSLC. e) Library There is still money left in the library budget for this year. PG students wishing to suggest a book can fill out the Book Suggestion Form on the library website: http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/library/tealea/bookform f) SU Education Convention This event on Wednesday 25th January will involve all university SSLCs along with senior academic and administrative staff to discuss university wide issues, such as teaching and car parking. The Physics PG-SSLC will be represented by the Chair and Secretary and all PG-SSLC representatives are also welcome to attend. 5. Next Meeting 16th March 2012, MAS 2.03
