29th October 2009 in Teaching Grid
Minutes
Present: Hannah L; Danny; Cath
We discussed latest research issues and made a ‘to do’ list of priority areas for this term, based on the
upcoming conference papers and the pending loss of access to archives after December. It was agreed
that all the research team should – with negotiation – focus their energies on these tasks.
THINGS TO DO
1. Read and select relevant info from BOOKS:
a. Powers. A (1992) In the Line of Development: FRS Yorke, E Rosenberg and C S Mardall to
YRM, 1930-1992, RIBA Heinz Gallery
b. The Architecture of Yorke, Rosenberg, Mardall, 1944 -1972
These books have been taken from the library on Hannah’s card and are currently on the shelf in
the Reinvention office. YRM were the University’s architects. It would also be good to try to find
out why the university chose these architects.
2. Related to points above, check out the YRM website and also do journal search for YRM.
3. Go through the database on the CVCP to identify anything we might need before December –
CATH . Cath to try to identify YRM architects in the VC minutes online …
4. Go through the buildings archive database to identify possible files which we can either use
now/ copy or keep aside for next term.
5. Hannah has the photos from the University archive (a few coming in still ) – probably about 30 in
total. These are mostly prints of university 1960s – 70. Can use these for photo-elicitation
interviews. Hannah to send electronically to Cath and Cath to print out for all for our next
meeting. When we have them we can work out where they are and do analysis and follow up
work.
6. Need to get list of all pics when we have them and follow up copyright obligations
7. Interview/ meet with Communications Office –
8. Interview/ meet with space and time team – Becs Lambert and Becky Lees. – CATH to make
initial approach to these teams and then we need to think about what exactly we want from
both these teams
9. Interview questions for Ruth and other academics in process and can sort via email.
10. In process of identifying possible interviewees: number of suggestions include:
a. Mike Shattock (see PT email for ref.)
b. Ken Flint Biology
c. Jim Beckford Sociology
d. Sarah Shalgosky (Mead)
Laura Evans to contact? Possibly link with the architects’
stuff (see books above) as they had some input into initial selection of art.
e. Hugh Garston-Hall
Hannah to contact
11. ALL put up everything we have on DATABASE – even if just rough notes and an indication of
where the original are (eg ‘handwritten notes in Laura E’s file)
12. Cath to contact and sort times to meet – possibly Tuesday week 5 between 10 -1 and or Wed
week 6?
