NASA Quarterly UVIS Q2 - 2011 (February - April 2011) Quarterly 1 <date> UVIS: Accomplishments • Science Highlights – Quarterly Bradley: Obtained reasonable values for ring particle bond albedo and asymmetry parameter in the FUV for the main rings 2 <date> UVIS: Science Highlights Far-UV (170-190 nm) albedo map of Mimas, with high-energy electron flux contours shown. UVIS data are compared with the CIRS image of the thermal anomaly. The FUV-bright regions (red-orange) may be correlated with E-ring grain bombardment; the darker (green) regions could be where H2O2 is created by electron bombardment. • Mimas data from February 2010 flyby (rev 126) analyzed to compare UV albedo pattern with the CIRS thermal signature and ISS visible albedo variations (Hendrix & Cassidy). Paper in preparation; to be submitted in April 2011. Results suggest a correlation with the CIRS-measured thermal anomaly and the ISS-measured “lens” that are likely related to high-energy electrons interacting with the low latitudes of the leading hemisphere (Paranicas et al. 2011). The UVIS results may also be related to the E-ring grain bombardment.
