Background Information: The purpose of this study is to investigate the risk factors (lack of social support, depression, substance use, and access to firearm) of suicide ideation among African American men at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). Based on the age group that is most at risk (i.e., adolescents and young adults), this study will explore whether the age of the participants will act as a moderator between the risk factors and suicide ideation. Moreover, as social support is reported to be a protective factor of mental health problems (such as suicidal behaviors) among African Americans, this study will also explore whether the lack of social support will act as a moderator between the other risk factors and suicide ideation. Procedures: If you agree to be in this study, you will be asked to complete five surveys. This will include questions regarding demographic, behaviors, thoughts, and feelings. It is estimated to take you up to 10 to 35 minutes to complete all the surveys. Print the proof of participation at the end of the questionnaire for your personal record.
