The funding would allow the NIH to allocate $40 million for the new Brain Research through Application of Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative. Casey Foundation recently released the 2013 KIDS COUNT Data Book, which provides state and national data on 16 key indicators of child well-being across four domains— economics, education, health, and family and community—and state rankings. It’s available online at: http://datacenter.kidscount.org/files/2013KIDSCOUNTDataBook.pdf CTSI Community Engagement and Research Core: RFA A new RFA has been distributed by Penn State CTSI’s Community Engagement and Research Core (CERC). Funding is available for pilot projects that address health topics and include community engagement. Note that Letters of Intent are required by September 1. A copy of the RFA accompanies this newsletter. PRC Community News BRIAN BUMBARGER provided testimony to the Pennsylvania House on youth violence as a public health epidemic, and at a briefing on the cost-effectiveness of youth violence and intervention; Brian was also invited to join the University Council on Engaged Scholarship, a Penn State committee that seeks to enhance undergraduate experiences by connecting students with community partners to gain real-world experiences and develop leadership skills—see the EPISCenter website for more information. MEG SMALL has been accepted into an Executive Education program offered through Stanford University’s Design School; while there, she will learn more about the school’s methodologies and techniques and explore ways in which these tools may be applied to prevention science problems. KELLY CONFER will be honored on November 7 as a recipient of the Carol Clark Ford Staff Achievement Award (4 p.m., Living Center). Congratulations all! And a PRC welcome to new EPIS hires Heather Perry, Shawn Peck, Lisa Freese and Kris Glunt!
