Highway 7 update: Progress is everywhere
What began as a bold vision is getting closer to reality every day. The Highway 7 East transit
project made significant progress this summer. Construction between Bayview Avenue and
Highway 404 is nearly 60% done and will be opening in 2013. What’s more, work on the east
side between Highway
404 and Warden Avenue
has already begun, and
is scheduled for
completion by 2014.
Before long, York Region
will have the efficient
rapid transit system and
modern infrastructure
necessary for our
growing needs.

Paving the way to a better future
All year, our construction crews have been
building the new rapidway—dedicated lanes
for Viva vehicles in the centre of the road.
The work continued this fall with paving
between Bayview Avenue and East Beaver
Creek Road. This work is weather dependent
so only a few sections were completed this
year. The remaining sections will be paved
in the spring of 2013.
To minimize
disruption, most
of the paving work
will occur during
weekend closures.
To help keep you
safe when paving
resumes, there will be police officers, flag
persons and appropriate signage on site
to direct motorists and pedestrians. In the
meantime, as work continues, please know
how much we appreciate your patience.

Bayview to Highway 404:
Closer to completion every day
Construction between
Bayview Avenue and
Highway 404 has been
busy. So far, most of
the road and boulevard
widening on the west
side is complete. By
the end of the year, we will have six stations
built at Bayview Avenue, Chalmers Road,
Valleymede Drive, West Beaver Creek
Road, Leslie Street and East Beaver Creek
Road. We will also have completed the
majority of curb and gutter work, as well as
filling planters in the median and along the
boulevard with soil.
To help pedestrians easily and conveniently
access their favourite stores and businesses,
we’re installing signage and temporary
sidewalks.

The Bayview Towers are almost ready
These elevated, state-of-the-art towers are nearing completion. Exterior work on the north and
south towers will be finished by the end of the year, while the interior will be done over the winter.
Highway 404 to Warden: Off to a great start
Lane closures: They happen for a reason
The east section is now well underway.
We’ve already removed medians from
Highway 404 to South Town Centre
Boulevard and shifted the lanes in
preparation for road widening. By the
end of this year, road widening,
drainage, excavation, back fill, some
boulevard work and conduit installation will be finished in
many blocks. We are also scheduled to start work on the
Allstate, Woodbine, Montgomery, South Town Centre and
Cedarland vivastations by early 2013. Please note, in order to
keep motorists and pedestrians safe, Cedarland Drive is
closed until February 2013.
While we know how disruptive lane closures can be, they are
a necessary part of construction. Even though a lane may
seem to be closed for no reason, rest assured there’s always
an explanation. For example,
it may be to create a safety
zone for workers or access
for construction vehicles.
Lanes can also be closed to
serve as pedestrian
walkways, or to protect the
newly built sidewalk, curb
and roadway. While some
construction activities along
Highway 7 are not that visible, great progress is being made.
We’re excited that this vivaNext rapidway project will be
complete in 2014.
Shop 7: We’re open for business
Despite ongoing construction along Highway 7, there’s no
change in how you access your favourite stores, restaurants
printed on post-consumer recycled paper
and entertainment venues. So, we encourage you to support
local businesses by continuing to shop and dine along Highway
7. They are open and ready to serve you.

See the transformation unfold
We know that construction can be disruptive and messy, so
we want to thank you for your patience and understanding.
The good news is that crews are
making great progress.
Soon, York Region will
have a reliable and fast
rapid transit system,
pedestrian-friendly
green spaces, bike
lanes, outdoor furniture,
and a more welcoming
space to live, work, play
and visit.
