Quang‐Minh Pham, Wendy Riggs, James Hayes, Lynn Thiesen, Crislyn Parker-support
2. Introductions and Public Comment: Members of the audience are invited to make
comments regarding any subject appropriate to the DE Planning Committee
3. Approve Mar. 26, 2015 DE Planning Committee Minutes: Not available; review two
sets next meeting.
4. Action Items
4.1 None
5. Discussion Items
5.1 Website status update, Reno Giovannetti and Mark Winter (attachment):
 The name has been changed to CR Online for both the homepage and DE webpage.
The home page has links to both canvas and canvas help. The student login bar
(black at top of page) is available with all web pages.
 The “Did you know section” will have several lines of text and will contain
interesting tidbits; please submit offerings and factoids to Reno for this space. The
committee discussed how to most effectively include contact information.
5.2 Website language for “CR Online” home page, Reno Giovannetti and Mark Winter
 The committee offered the following suggestions:
o Fold a student complaint process into the existing process. Accreditation standards
require we provide students a means of complaint. Under help and support, have
a fifth button specifically for complaints for online classes. Students choose that
button to get detailed information
o Agreed we need a contact us for general feedback: Leave “contact us” as generic
and put Reno’s email address. Also we should identify the person to whom the
email is directed and clarify this is a student contact area.
o Agreed to change the red become a student button to different color.
5.3 Respondus lockdown browser marketing and training, Reno Giovannetti
 Update: finalizing installation and testing in time for use at finals
 Working with Del Norte and KT to finalize as well
5.4 Student Complaint Process, Reno Giovannetti and Mark Winter
 (Addressed above.)
5.5 Certificate for OTLT, Mark Winter
 Develop an OTLT certificate of Recognition. Possibly lobby CRFO to be on the
negotiating team for the 2017 contract.
 May 15 Senate meeting: anticipate Mark Winter and Lisa Sayles presenting a report
on
OTLT. Mark will talk to the co-presidents immediately about getting on the agenda.
5.6 “Quality Matters” rubric for Sch. F2-DE, Mark Winter (attachments)
 Can Quality Matters rubric inform our evaluation of online classes?
 The committee discussed using all or part of this rubric and integrating with the
current evaluation form. Suggestion not to use QM in evaluation.
 First we need to conceptualize where QM fits. A suggestion to have someone
complete
the quality matters certification training, to be able to train others, will elevate the
quality of the rubric. Mark will work with Lisa and Ahn to find more concrete
information on the Quality Matters and bring to back to committee to decide if the
committee should recommend training.
 Suggestion to pitch to new director in July, to possibly aid in increasing online
sections
and reduce barriers.
5.7 Increasing online sections: Current barriers and mitigation strategies
 Note: College of Siskiyou, a smaller college than CR, is offering more online courses
 Next steps:
o Identify barriers to online courses that can be alleviated
o The committee is tasked to brainstorm ideas on how to facilitate growth of the
online program. Several suggestions:
 Propose compensation for online course development
 Market the OTLT and training (strengthens the need to have one or two DEPC
members on CRFO negotiating team. Administration and CRFO need to
understand why. Discipline cohorts might be a vessel-have several faculty in
one discipline take OTLT).
 Faculty to consider online labs. Move to online labs one step at a time; for
example, offer a hybrid lab, eliminating maybe 25% of face to face. If it is
successful, take the next step-50% face to face, and so on.
5.8 Increasing TelePresence sections: Current barriers and mitigation strategies
 Not addressed
6. Reports
6.1 CR Online Faculty Handbook, Mark Winter
7. Future Agenda items
7.1 Training for faculty: “How to create videos”
8. Announcements: We have two more meetings this year. Items 5.7 and 5.8 will be
ongoing discussions.
9. Adjourn
