College of the Redwoods Program Review Committee Executive Summary Adopted November 6, 2009 Mission Statement The College of the Redwoods’ Program Review Committee leads and facilitates authentic assessment as it relates to student success and planning at the institution for all subject and service areas. The committee reviews Annual and Comprehensive Program Reviews that provide the strong foundation upon which College of the Redwoods develops, identifies, states and documents quality improvement plans and goals including providing the direction of prioritization of funding, and support needs as organized under the strategic planning objectives. Objective: To provide an evaluative Executive Summary of this program’s review for authors, the Integrated Planning Committees, and the District. Program strengths: Staff coordination of resources and working with athletics, financial aid, business office; More emphasis on student guidance and student success in the residence halls 2. Program challenges/obstacles: Facilities; Funding; Staffing; High risk population; Student behavior- alcohol and drug abuse; Technology somewhat lacking, but adequate; Low GPA and unit totals continue to be a challenge 3. Commendations: Increased student activities for residential life and combined activities with campus life; Study hall program; Working with Advising to meet with students; 4. 5. 6. 7. 4. Program Budget/Funding Sources: Separate budget of residence halls from other auxiliary budgets; The revenue derived from Res halls should stay in Res halls Additional Comments: Recommendations: To better consolidate services, investigate using residential life module in Datatel (training and staff time to implement); Provide training and staff time to implement ADA compliance for Del Norte residence halls, which is in question; Separate budget of residence halls from other auxiliary budgets Priority: Fire code for Del Norte; Automatic door closing system is needed. May be in violation of California Fire code section 703 ADA codes for res halls; check state compliance Carbon Monoxide detectors for each room Process: PRC will forward completed Executive Summaries to program review authors. Authors will have two weeks to provide feedback and corrections on errors of fact and/interpretation PRC will forward Executive Summaries and authors response (if available) to the appropriate integrated planning committee and the CPC. 5. Program Outcomes Assessment (PLOs/SLOs): Good job of evaluating program activities, tying to SLO/s and trying new things and tying to program objectives Exit survey of students and why they are not returning to CR 7.
