College of the Redwoods Program Review Committee Executive Summary Adopted November 6, 2009 Mission Statement The College of the Redwoods’ Program Review Committee leads and facilitates authentic assessment as it relates to student success and planning at the institution for all subject and service areas. The committee reviews Annual and Comprehensive Program Reviews that provide the strong foundation upon which College of the Redwoods develops, identifies, states and documents quality improvement plans and goals including providing the direction of prioritization of funding, and support needs as organized under the strategic planning objectives. Objective: To provide an evaluative Executive Summary of this program’s review for authors, the Integrated Planning Committees, and the District. Program Review Subject/Service Area: __Advising______________________ Program Review Authors: __ Jennifer Bailey_________________________________ 1. Summary and Recommendations: 1. Program strengths: More personnel/staff in this area is improving access for students; The advising lab is a plus in moving toward students being more self sufficient especially with computer skills. 2. Program challenges/obstacles: Lack of document imaging in getting transcripts as needed; E-advising can’t be fully implementing until they have the ability to have document imaging and transcript evaluator; can’t fully support student needs; training for staff has been an obstacle, but Advising is working to meet the needs of staff and students. 3. Commendations: Influx of staff during peak registration times is very helpful for students; Advising is working with IR to create a database for use in a study to determine and document the effectiveness of student learning cohorts; Increased number of staff working with local high schools is a plus toward student success; training for staff has been an obstacle, but Advising is working to meet the needs of staff and students. 2. Additional Comments: Recommendations: ** PRC feels Document imaging and transcript evaluator is a need critical to meet ACCJC requirements; e-advising can’t be fully implemented without it. 4. Program Budget/Funding Sources: Imaging system and transcript evaluator will strengthen advising; Process: PRC will forward completed Executive Summaries to program review authors. Authors will have two weeks to provide feedback and corrections on errors of fact and/interpretation PRC will forward Executive Summaries and authors response (if available) to the appropriate integrated planning committee and the CPC. 5. Program Outcomes Assessment (PLOs/SLOs): More closely tying goals and plans to outcomes assessment (PLOs/SLOs); Continue to provide numbers of how many are served in successive program reviews to be able to compare to previous years. 7. Student Success/Achievement Basic Skills obstacles/challenges: Exit survey of students and why they are not returning to CR. *Records storage: procuring a document imaging system and transcript evaluator is imperative to remaining compliant with accreditation standards; we have to complete these processes areas of assessment, student success, and retention and need the tools to be able to effectively do so.
