The committee reviews Annual and Comprehensive Program Reviews that provide the strong foundation  upon which College of the Redwoods develops, identifies, states and documents quality improvement plans  and goals including providing the direction of prioritization of funding, and support needs as organized under

  the strategic planning objectives.

Program   Review   Subject/Service   Area:    Addiction Studies     Program   Review   Authors:      Rachel Anderson

Summary   and   Recommendations:   Additional   Comments:

1. Program strengths:

Dedication of associate faculty has kept this program running fairly well

New curriculum and certificate renovations by associate faculty

Success and retention rates increased, except Mendocino has lower success rates

2. Program challenges/obstacles:

No full-time faculty leadership

3. Commendations

Expected growth for substance abuse counselors in this area

Data supporting conclusions used good examples.

4. Program Budget/Funding Sources:

Need to separate out of the ALSS division budget

There is enough demand to have a full-time faculty

Pink flag: likelihood of program succeeding without fulltime faculty or coordinator is low

& Recommendations:

This program could have good potential with minimal cost, but is in need of full time faculty leadership

5. Program Goals/Plans:

Full time faculty Program Coordinator (requested for 2years)

Create/maintain an advisory group

Creation of human service program and integrate with addiction studies program

6. Program Outcomes Assessment (PLOs/SLOs):

No clear and specific assessment plan, which should be remedied by April 8, with the creation of five-year assessment plans

7. Student Success/Achievement/Basic Skills obstacles/challenges:

Reading 360 appears to not be good preparation for success in

Addiction Studies courses

(HSU has a program that Addiction studies student could transfer into-if CR had better program leadership)

PRC Recommendation: 1) All programs would benefit from a formalized, institution-led follow-up system/tracking of our graduates. 2) Clarification/development of process from grant funded programs/positions to district funding.

3) District-wide plan for technology and equipment maintenance and replacement.

Process:

Completed Executive Summary forms will be sent to program review authors.

PRC will forward Executive Summaries to the appropriate integrated planning committees.
