An intermediate-level course in the use of Quickbooks accounting software. The goal of the course is to enable the student to use Quickbooks in real-life situations. This course is particularly relevant for bookkeepers and small business owners who want to be able to use Quickbooks to automate bookkeeping and accounting tasks. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES: What should the students be able to do as a result of taking this course? State some of the objectives in terms of specific, measurable student accomplishments. Students will be able to use Quickbooks financial software to prepare a budget and project cash flow. Develop decision tools to measure profitability, depreciate assets, improve cash flow, and analyze financial strength of a business. Make journal entries. Run and print various financial reports. Exchange data with an online banking system. Set up payroll data and use timesheets with the software. Customize and manage files, preferences and classes. Relate the activities directly to the Course Learning Outcomes. Students will be participating in lectures and demonstrations of Quickbooks as well as entering simulated business transactions using the software. They will also complete textbook exercises and assignments. Each lesson presents the student with a fresh Quickbooks company file. Students learn to use the features of Quickbooks by completing various bookkeeping tasks and business functions. ASSESSMENT TASKS: How will the students show evidence of achieving the Course Learning Outcomes? Each test focuses on using Quickbooks to perform a specific task. Tests consist of an objective question and answer section and a hands-on evaluation of the students' ability to use the Quickbooks software to perform the task or function. Course: RECOMMENDED PREPARATION: No Yes Course: Bus 180 or Bus 1A or work experience in bookkeeping or accounting. Basic computer skills. Rationale for Recommended Preparation? Students who have no experience with bookkeeping or accounting may find this course difficult because they will need to learn bookkeeping and accounting procedures while also learning to use the Quickbooks software.
