Members Absent: Utpal Goswami. 1. Call to Order: Committee Chair, Peter Blakemore, called the meeting to order at 12:05 p.m. 2. Introductions and Public Comment: There were no comments at this time. 3. Approval of the Minutes: Gary Sokolow moved to approve the minutes of the April 22, 2011 meeting, seconded by Allen Keppner. There being no objections, the minutes were approved as written. 4. Discussion Item 4.1 Change of Delivery Mode on DE Proposals Geoff Cain from the Distance Education Department would like the committee to consider updating the Distance Education proposals to include options for “Hybrid‐Online”, “Correspondence” and “Video One Way”. These changes would allow access to students in areas without internet access or low‐technology infrastructure, military personnel and incarcerated students. The committee will consider this over the summer and invited Geoff Cain to come back in the fall for further discussion. 5. Discussion: 1. Allen Keppner pointed out there are already 49 courses approved to meet the Humanities requirement, 7 of the 49 are Art courses. 2. Also every course that is classified as GE must meet the criteria but not every course that meets the criteria should be a GE course. But the Committee needs to start having courses submitted so the criteria can be further refined. 3. The courses that are currently GE, as they are submitted for updates will have to be reconsidered and reapproved by the Curriculum Committee in order to keep its GE status. 5.4 ART‐31B Introduction to Ceramics (Wheel) – Shannon Sullivan George Potamianos [M], Michelle Haggerty [2nd]. Discussion: 1. This course is for students who many interested in teaching math or science. This class would cover what is involved in mathematics from Kindergarten to 12th grade. 2. There is a MOU between the community college and California State University systems to develop a pipeline to get students at the community college interested in teaching. 3.
