Postgraduate Engineering at the University of Warwick, UK Warwick's School of Engineering is a leading engineering school and one of the largest integrated departments in the UK. We cover the major engineering disciplines, such as Biomedical, Electronic, Civil and Mechanical. MSc Biomedical Engineering Our one-year MSc in Biomedical Engineering offers a unique opportunity to study fundamental concepts in Biomedical Engineering building essential skills in a number core areas in the field. Our programme adopts a systems approach, which is quite unique to the University of Warwick. This exciting approach will enable you to consider new perspectives in tackling research problems in the sector. Core Modules Fundamentals of Biomedical Engineering This module provides an introduction to the structure and function of the human body, and a basic understanding of biomedical technology. The module introduces pioneering areas in biomedical engineering research, an overview of the biomedical engineering profession and the roles of the biomedical engineer. Biomedical Imaging This module will introduce you to the fundamental principles and applications of medical imaging in the human body, and to imaging and sensing in the brain. The module will provide you with a firm grounding in the basic theory underpinning the core methods in clinical practice, as well as an awareness of emerging technologies and their applications. Biomechanics This module will familiarise you with to the principles of mechanics as applied to biomedical and biological systems. It will Recognising commitment to advancing women’s careers in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine) academia. introduce the fundamental principles involved in both experimental and analytical methods, and enable students to experience the implementation of such methods via the School of Engineering’s Gait Laboratory, which utilises state-of-the-art motion capture. Biomedical Systems Modelling and Simulation The module will provide you with a firm background in the tools and techniques for performing model development, model analysis and simulation, identifiability analysis, parameter estimation and model validation. Industrial seminars are given by leading biomedical modelling practitioners. Biomedical Signal Processing This module will provide you with a broad base of signal processing techniques that can be applied across a breadth of application areas in order to help medical practitioners make sense of this data deluge. Optional Modules Individual Project • Computational Intelligence in Biomedical Engineering • Healthcare Technology Engineering: design, maintenance and assessment • Introduction to Systems and Synthetic Biology • Introduction to Systems Pharmacology • Biosensors • Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine The individual project is often linked with industrially sponsored research within the School of engineering. Projects usually involve the use of one of the many research labs in the school and usually integrate into on-going cutting research in the school around the many aspects of biomedical engineering. The projects also can include design, measurement and/or analysis of experimental data, or analysis of survey based research.
