For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, Jan. 25, 2008 CU offers Cameron Gold Scholarship for 2008-09 Cameron University will offer its Cameron Gold scholarship to qualifying students for the 2008-2009 academic year. The scholarship works in conjunction with the Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program (OHLAP) also known as “Oklahoma’s Promise” to cover costs not typically financed through OHLAP funding. “The OHLAP program provides funding to cover the tuition associated with college course work,” said Lance Janda, Ph.D., Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management. “In turn, the Cameron Gold Scholarship is designed to pay for expenses not covered by OHLAP such as fees and books.” Eighth- through 10th-grade students from families that make $50,000 or less and meet approved academic and behavioral standards can already sign up for free college tuition through OHLAP. The Cameron Gold Scholarship will supplement OHLAP to ensure all OHLAP-qualified students entering Cameron University as freshmen during the Fall 2008 semester who meet scholarship requirements will receive additional funding to pay for tuition, fees and books. Funds from the scholarship will be awarded during the fall and spring semester for up to five years or a maximum of the 128 credit hours needed to graduate with a bachelor’s degree. Combined with OHLAP, Cameron Gold is valued at more than $25,000, depending on individual student circumstances. -more- Gold, ADD ONE “Cameron University prides itself on offering affordable, high quality education to the people of Oklahoma,” Janda said. “The Cameron Gold Scholarship will reward academic achievement and ensure higher education is accessible to as many Oklahomans as possible.
