CU offers Cameron Gold Scholarship for
2008-09
Cameron University will offer its Cameron Gold scholarship to qualifying students for the 2008-2009
academic year. The scholarship works in conjunction with the Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program
(OHLAP) also known as “Oklahoma’s Promise” to cover costs not typically financed through OHLAP
funding.
“The OHLAP program provides funding to cover the tuition associated with college course work,” said
Lance Janda, Ph.D., Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management. “In turn, the Cameron Gold
Scholarship is designed to pay for expenses not covered by OHLAP such as fees and books.”
Eighth- through 10th-grade students from families that make $50,000 or less and meet approved academic
and behavioral standards can already sign up for free college tuition through OHLAP. The Cameron Gold
Scholarship will supplement OHLAP to ensure all OHLAP-qualified students entering Cameron University
as freshmen during the Fall 2008 semester who meet scholarship requirements will receive additional
funding to pay for tuition, fees and books.
Funds from the scholarship will be awarded during the fall and spring semester for up to five years or a
maximum of the 128 credit hours needed to graduate with a bachelor’s degree. Combined with OHLAP,
Cameron Gold is valued at more than $25,000, depending on individual student circumstances.

“Cameron University prides itself on offering affordable, high quality education to the people of Oklahoma,”
Janda said. “The Cameron Gold Scholarship will reward academic achievement and ensure higher
education is accessible to as many Oklahomans as possible. It is the finest OHLAP supplemental
scholarship program available in Oklahoma, and represents an outstanding opportunity for this year’s
OHLAP high school seniors.”
To qualify for the scholarship students must complete ALL of the steps below by April 1, 2008:
1. Apply for admission to Cameron University.
2. Submit a scholarship application to the Office of Admissions.
3. Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the Office of Financial Assistance.
4. Submit a Cameron Gold application to the Office of Financial Assistance.
5. Be eligible for and receive OHLAP funding.
6. Be admitted as a first-semester incoming freshman at Cameron for the Fall 2008 semester.
Students will continue to receive the Cameron Gold Scholarship provided they complete a minimum of 12
credit hours of course work during each fall and spring semester, meet university academic standards for
retention, submit a completed FAFSA to the Office of Financial Assistance and submit a completed
scholarship application to the Office of Financial Assistance and remain eligible and receive OHLAP
funding.
The Cameron Gold Scholarship program is a five year commitment from Cameron University to OHLAP
freshmen entering in the Fall of 2008. The Cameron Gold Scholarship program will be re-evaluated each
year to determine whether it will be extended to freshmen OHLAP-qualifying students in subsequent years.
