For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, Feb. 16, 2007 Cameron Gold Scholarship helps OHLAPqualifying students Financing a college education this fall will be much easier for some Cameron University students because of the support of a new scholarship called Cameron Gold which CU officials announced this week. Cameron Gold will work in conjunction with the Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program (OHLAP) also known as “Oklahoma’s Promise” to cover costs not typically financed through OHLAP funding. “The OHLAP program provides funding to cover the tuition associated with college course work,” said Lance Janda, Ph.D., Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management. “In turn, the Cameron Gold Scholarship is designed to pay for expenses not covered by OHLAP such as fees and books.” Eighth- through 10th-grade students from families that make $50,000 or less and meet approved academic and behavioral standards can already sign up for free college tuition through OHLAP. The Cameron Gold Scholarship will supplement OHLAP to ensure all OHLAP-qualified students entering Cameron University as freshmen during the Fall 2007 semester who meet scholarship requirements will receive additional funding to pay for tuition, fees and books. Funds from the scholarship will be awarded during the fall and spring semester for up to five years or a maximum of the 128 credit hours needed to graduate with a bachelor’s degree. Depending on student circumstances, the scholarship could be worth more than $22,000. -moreGold, ADD ONE “Cameron University prides itself on offering affordable, high quality education to the people of Oklahoma,” Janda said. “The Cameron Gold Scholarship will reward academic achievement and ensure higher education is accessible to as many Oklahomans as possible. It is the finest OHLAP supplemental scholarship program available in Oklahoma, and represents an outstanding opportunity for this year’s OHLAP high school seniors.” To be eligible, students must: 1) Apply for admission to Cameron University by April 1, 2007. 2) Be admitted as a first semester incoming freshmen and enroll at Cameron University for the Fall 2007 semester. 3) Be eligible for and receive OHLAP funding. 4) Complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 1, 2007 to the Office of Financial Assistance. 5) Complete and submit a Scholarship Application through the Office of Admissions. 6) Enroll in at least 12 hours a semester during the fall and spring. Students will continue to receive the Cameron Gold Scholarship provided they meet University academic standards for retention, apply for federal financial assistance each year and enroll in at least 12 hours during each fall and spring semester. The Cameron Gold Scholarship program is a five year commitment from Cameron University to OHLAP freshmen entering in the Fall of 2007.
