For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, Feb. 23, 2008 Cameron homecoming royalty announced Cameron junior Bira Vidal and senior Sonila Abdulla were crowned Cameron University’s Homecoming King and Queen today during half-time of the CU men’s basketball gym against Northeastern State University in Aggie Gym. The coronation ceremony was the final event of Cameron’s Homecoming Week 2008 celebration titled “Destination: Cameron University.” Vidal is a communications major from Salvador, Brazil and Abdulla is finance major from Vlore, Albania. The pair represented Cameron’s International Club. First runners-up were YuAndré Gee Dieujuste of Orlando, Fla., representing the Criminal Justice and Sociology Department and Marisa White of Rush Springs representing the Student Government Association. Jeremy and Jacey Toombs, of Lawton, were named second runners-up. They represented Baptist Collegiate Ministries. Cameron’s Homecoming King and Queen were elected by the student body. Candidates were nominated by their dean, department or organization. To participate, candidates must also be a junior or senior and maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average. After the coronation ceremony, the Office of Student Activities also announced The Baptist Collegiate Ministries as the winner of the “Number One Aggie Fan” contest. Cameron’s more than 70 student organizations were eligible for the competition.
