Cameron Forensics team brings home
awards
Cameron University’s Forensics team earned numerous awards at the OKIE Round-up State College and
University speech and debate tournament this past weekend in competition with nine other colleges and
universities.
Bethany Beck, a senior communication major from Lawton, and Michael Faggett, a freshman
communication major from Dallas, Texas, finished as semi-finalists in Parliamentary Debate after
accumulating a three win and one loss record. Beck and Faggett also won the first and second place in the
Debate Speaking category.
Stacy Easley, a freshman political science major from Houston, Texas and Dyrud Lionel, a junior business
administration major from St. Lucia, finished fifth in Parliamentary Debate and Jacob Pahcheka, a
sophomore communication major from Lawton, finished fifth in the International Public Debate Association
Style Debate.
Cameron students also took home several individual event awards. Beck was named second place Overall
Speaker in the state and second Overall Individual Events Speaker in the state in addition to winning first in
Impromptu Speaking, third in Programmed Oral Interpretation, third in Extemporaneous Speaking and fifth
in Informative Speaking. Faggett was named third place Overall Speaker in the state and took home five
individual awards including second in Persuasive Speaking, fourth in Informative Speaking, fourth in
Extemporaneous Speaking, fifth in Communication Analysis and sixth in Impromptu Speaking. Pahcheka
rounded out the individual awards finishing sixth in After Dinner Speaking.

CU FORENSICS, continued
Faggett’s second place finish in Persuasive Speaking qualified him for the Interstate Oratorical Association
National Tournament in April at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Two representatives from each
state are chosen each year to compete at the tournament. The Interstate Oratorical Association is the
oldest intercollegiate speaking contest in the United States dating back to 1872.
