, For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK May 29, 2016 Cameron history students bring home awards Two Cameron University history students earned awards at the recent annual Oklahoma Association of Professional Historians/Phi Alpha Theta National Honor Society regional conference, hosted by Oklahoma Christian University. The students contended in the student paper competition against approximately 60 other students from around Oklahoma. Kyle Lewis, a junior history major from Lawton, won first place in the undergraduate non-U.S. history category for his paper, “The End of Legalized Slavery in Saudi Arabia.” Gayle Wiginton, a December 2007 history graduate from Cache, tied for third place in the U.S. history undergraduate category for her paper “Confederate Ladies’ Gunboat Societies and the Vessels They Financed.” The students were accompanied by Cameron faculty members Mark J. Stegmaier, Ph.D., Professor of History and Government; Sarah Eppler Janda, Ph.D., Associate Professor of History & Government; and Russell Graves, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of History and Government.
