CU professor elected President of
national organization, receives award
Multimedia Associate professor Abbas Johari, Ph. D., has been selected to become the President
of the International Division (ID) of the Association for Educational Communications and
Technology (AECT) in 2009. As part of his duties, he will serve ID as President-elect next year.
AECT is one of the top associations for the fields of educational communications and technology. It
is a professional association of thousands of educators and others whose activities are directed
towards improving instruction through technology.
ID is one of the major divisions of AECT. Its mission is to facilitate communication among
educational technology professionals and students worldwide, promote interactions that transcend
international boundaries and cultural lines by mentoring and fostering educational endeavors and
coordinate communication with sister associations around the world.
“I am looking forward to serving this worthwhile organization,” said Johari. “During my period as
President, I will strive to increase the meaningful international perspectives of educational
communication and technology globally and nationally and continue to support the ID tradition of
encouraging AECT members, particularly students, to join ID and immediately involve them in
important ID affairs.”

Johari, ADD ONE
Johari has served ID as a board member and held many positions including Communications
Officer, and the Outstanding Practice by a Student of Educational Technology Award Coordinator.
He has also served as an official representative of Educational Technology Research and
Development (ETR&D) as the editor of International Review . Both the ETR&D Board and other
section editors of ETR&D have continuously commended International Review for the quality of its
papers and its editorial and managerial process.
Johari has also been recognized for his service to ETR&D as a member of the Development Board
of Consulting Editors since 2005. This is one of most the well-respected, honorably recognized
memberships of the ETR&D editorial board. As a member, Johari provides feedback on
submissions from major universities to be published in ETR&D.
“Dr. Johari’s contributions in reviewing and editing submissions and his various suggestions along
the way have kept ETR&D among the premier journals in our field,” according to Michael Spector,
senior Development Editor of ETR&D.
“Because of his hard work, Dr. Johari is now displayed in the Consulting Editors page of ETR&D,”
said Don Aguilar, CU chair of multimedia design. “In terms of both editorship in International
Review and Consulting Editor, he deals with new ideas that he can bring back to the classrooms.”
