Hundreds of students from area high schools
to attend Cameron’s interscholastics contest
Cameron University’s 28th Annual Interscholastics Contest will be held from 8-11 a.m. Friday, April 7, on
CU’s main campus in Lawton. Approximately 600 students from 22 Southwest Oklahoma high schools will
compete in more than 50 contests during the event.
Cameron’s School of Business, School of Education and Behavioral Sciences, School of Liberal Arts, and
the School of Science and Technology will all be contest sites this year with competitions being held in
subjects ranging from history, accounting, and biology to computer literacy, art and several math subjects.
Foreign language tests will feature several levels in Spanish, French and German, from beginning to
advanced levels and native speakers. There also will be a large variety of musical competitions, from music
theory to instrumental solos.
“The interscholastic contest is always one of the most exciting times on campus,” said Lorie Garrison,
Coordinator of Educational Outreach at Cameron. “It’s a fast and fun morning, but it gives the students an
opportunity to shine, as well as experience just a little bit of life on an university campus.”
During the competition, students earn points according to their placing in each of event by the following
ranking: eight points for first place; five points for second; three points for third: two points for fourth; and
one point for fifth. A sweepstakes plaque will be presented to the top school in each division. Certificates
will be awarded for first- through fifth-place winners.
Each competing school is placed into either the Type I or Type II category based on enrollment.
