Cameron plans ‘Diversity Week’ activities
Cameron University has one of the most culturally diverse college campuses in Oklahoma with students
from across the United States and more than 40 foreign countries earning their education at CU.
To celebrate the wealth of cultures gathered at Cameron, the university will host its annual Diversity Week
with performances, demonstrations, displays, music and a variety of foods from several different cultures.
The festivities, which are free and open to the public, will be held daily from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.,
Monday, Sept. 26, to Friday, Sept. 30, just east of the Sciences Complex, located CU’s main campus in
Lawton.
“Diversity Week offers Cameron students, faculty, and staff, as well as visitors, an opportunity to
experience other cultures,” said Tara Lennox, Student Development Specialist. “Diversity week is a great
way for Cameron students to educate others by sharing their unique cultures and showcasing their various
talents”.
Entitled Going Global: Around the World in 5 days, Diversity Week will feature a different cultural group
each day. Monday will focus on American Indian Heritage, followed by Black American Heritage on
Tuesday, Asian/Pacific Islander Heritage on Wednesday, and Hispanic/Latino Heritage on Thursday. On
Friday, Diversity Week will feature an International Celebration, as well as a celebration of Caribbean
Heritage.
On Tuesday evening there will be a Cultural Showcase at 8 p.m. in the Shepler Mezzanine. The Cultural
Showcase will include performances from Cameron’s cultural organizations, students, and community
members. Performances include music, dancing, poetry, and fashion shows.
