Cameron University’s Sciences Complex to house buffalo sculpture this month

Visitors to the Cameron University Sciences Complex will be greeted by a new face during July.

The Sciences Complex will be the temporary corral for Lawton’s touring buffalo sculpture, entitled “Thru the

Eyes of the Buffalo.”

Comanche artist Oliver Poemoceah painted the buffalo sculpture with depictions representative of

Southwest Oklahoma.

The sculpture arrived on Cameron’s campus today from its previous location at the Lawton-Fort Sill Airport, and is positioned in the foyer of the Sciences Complex, which is located on University Drive, north of the

Shepler Center.

This buffalo sculpture is part of “Spirit of the Buffalo” herd, which consists of a 100 fiberglass-cast buffalo sculptures representing various communities across Oklahoma. The herd of buffalo sculptures is an

Oklahoma Nature Conservancy fundraiser and a state centennial project. Lawton’s sculpture was donated by AEP-PSO.

The next stop on Lawton’s sculpture will be the Lawton Birthday Celebration where he will be officially unveiled. The celebration will be at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Lawton Public Library’s Plaza.
