For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, May 11, 2005 Music honor society installed at Cameron, members and officers initiated at ceremony Cameron University’s music department added a new honor society to its repertoire. Headed by an ensemble of students and Kirsten Underwood, an assistant music professor at Cameron, the department formed the Zeta Beta Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon. The music honor society officially became recognized when the society’s international president, Francis Irwin, installed the chapter at a special ceremony at the end of the Spring 2005 semester. Students inducted as the charter members of the chapter include president Sarah Sturdevant, vice president Callie Grabow, treasurer Elijah Ramirez, historian Victoria Bullard, chaplain Adam Gutierrez, steward Holly Van Pelt and chorister Clint Williams, all of Lawton; and secretary Lori Taylor from Duncan. Also inducted were Cynthia Casarez, Ronny Helm and Kim Van Pelt, all of Lawton. Cameron faculty members inducted into the society include Gregory Hoepfner and Dr. Dan Sheridan, both assistant professors in the music and theatre arts department. Underwood was also elected to serve as the chapter’s faculty advisor during the ceremony. “This is an active honor society,” said Underwood, who became a member of the Mu Phi Epsilon as an undergraduate at Willamette University in Salem, Ore. “We will present four programs a year, as well as (over) grant, ADD ONE function as a service organization, performing such tasks as ushering for the music department. Mu Phi Epsilon will give Cameron’s music students the opportunity to perform outreach into the community and promote the music they love.” Cameron University represents the 201st chapter of the international society.
