For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, Nov. 1, 2004 Upcoming Cameron University workshop teaches businessmen how to write it right Have you ever wondered if the right word to use is “affect” or “effect”? Or if the best way to tell bad news is to get right to the point – and risk losing a customer? Or how to address a letter if all you have is the name of the company? These and many other topics will be addressed during an upcoming Cameron University workshop, “English Safari Survival Skills.” Using a jungle safari theme, three experts in business writing will cover common concepts of grammar, organizing letters and memos, and technical aspects of writing outstanding email messages. Dr. Sylvia Miller, Dr. Vivian Thomlinson and Mary Penick will present the workshop at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, in the Shepler Center Mezzanine on Cameron’s main campus in Lawton. Designed for business professionals, the three-hour workshop will be a hands-on, fun-filled “jungle safari” through the wilds of business writing. Miller has years of experience in teaching business communications and has worked in the business world. She has lectured on many topics related to business writing. Thomlinson has also taught business writing and has worked in industry. Mary Penick, formerly of Telos-OK, has many years of experience teaching technical writing.
