McArthur named to dean’s post at Cameron
Dr. John M. McArthur was named the new dean of Cameron University’s School of Science and
Technology during the May meeting of the Board of Regents for the University of Oklahoma, Cameron
University and Rogers State University today.
McArthur, currently with Colorado State University-Pueblo, will assume his new post at Cameron on July 1.
The new dean has a distinguished record of research, teaching, publications and scholarly works in
multiple disciplines, according to President Cindy Ross, including several years of professorial and
academic leadership experience in an Oklahoma regional university similar in size and mission to
Cameron.
“Dr. McArthur was selected after a nation-wide search that turned up many highly qualified candidates,”
said Ross. “He received strong recommendations by distinguished educators who are thoroughly familiar
with his record of service and academic leadership, and we are pleased to have him come to Cameron.”
McArthur holds an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Rice University and two graduate degrees
from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He was on the physical science faculty of Southeastern
Oklahoma State University in Durant from 1993-2001 and chaired its computer science and technology
department from 1999-2001. He has been a mathematics professor at Colorado State University-Pueblo
since 2001 and currently chairs its departmental mathematics curriculum committee.

He is a past member of the Educational Leadership Academy for Outstanding Professors in Oklahoma and
was member of the Technology 2000 panel, an advisory group for the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher
Education that investigated distance learning options in physical science available to the state’s
undergraduate institutions.
“I am very pleased to join Cameron,” McArthur said. “I look forward to the opportunity to work with the
students, faculty and staff, as well as the Lawton-Fort Sill community. I particularly wish to thank Dr. Gary
Buckley for his insight and assistance during the interview and transition process.”
McArthur will replace Buckley as dean of the CU School of Science and Technology. Buckley, who had
held that position since 2001, was appointed as Vice President of Academic Affairs at today’s regents
meeting in Norman.
