Be sure to see your advisor regularly. Turn in your upper division and intent to graduate forms on schedule! See your advisor if in any semester you are unable to enroll in the recommended Communication Disorders course. You may need to enroll through “Permission of Department” (POD). Your advisor will assist you. Health and Human Performance Department COMMUNICATION DISORDERS Academic Map/Extended Course of Study (120 hours degree) (August 2012) Students who have limited time for attending classes and studying outside class may choose to complete the Communication Disorders major through an extended course of study. This program sequences the Communication Disorders courses the same as the regular course of study but spreads the sequence over 5 years. Students sometimes need additional time to focus, build knowledge, and improve or maintain good grades. Students may choose to start the extended program when personal circumstances may prevent them from being successful in the regular program, or they may change to the extended program. When enrolling in fewer Communication Disorders courses in a given semester, students must be careful to sequence courses appropriately so that prerequisites are met. Academic advisement each semester is important. Students should check their lottery scholarship qualifications regularly. • • • • • • • Baccalaureate Degree - minimum 120 hours General Education - 41 hours Communication Disorders Major - 42 hours academic and clinical coursework Minor - 18 hours (hours vary; check each minor and have minor advisor) Guided Electives - 12 hours (see list of options) General Electives - 7 hours Students who make lower than B- in ENGL 1010 or 1020 and students who demonstrate poor writing skills in course work, as assessed by two faculty members, will be required to take an additional English course that focuses on writing.
