Job Opportunity Part-Time Community Coordinator PADEMP & Delta Dialogue Network The Peace-Athabasca Delta Ecological Monitoring Program (PADEMP) is a collaboration between Aboriginal groups, government agencies and non-government organizations. The mandate of PADEMP is to measure, evaluate and communicate the state of the Peace-Athabasca Delta using both Traditional Knowledge and Western Science. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: PADEMP is working on a collaborative research project in partnership with the University of Saskatchewan. The Delta Dialogue Network (DDN) is focused on how research and monitoring information about the Peace-Athabasca Delta can be best communicated to influence policy and decision making that could affect the delta’s water quantity and quality. The DDN research team, which includes PADEMP and University of Saskatchewan, is seeking one part time community coordinator, to be based in Fort Chipewyan. This is a 1-year position expected to start in April, 2015. This community coordinator will support the work of PADEMP on the DDN project in Fort Chipewyan. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the DDN Project Manager, you will work with DDN researchers and PADEMP partners to: schedule project activities and meetings as well as coordinate and undertake research activities in Fort Chipewyan; support graduate students working in the communities, including advising graduate students, where appropriate, on community protocols and project development; conduct surveys with community members as appropriate and promote projects within the local communities; support Elders, harvesters and community members taking part in DDN activities; share information between PADEMP partners and community members and DDN researchers; participate in PADEMP and DDN meetings and workshops; communicate with other community or regional coordinators and staff as necessary (e.g., DDN coordinators in Fort Smith, Fort Resolution, etc.); and work with the project manager and participate in other opportunities or duties identified together POSITION REQUIREMENTS: desire and willingness to communicate with Elders, harvesters, environment and government staff, researchers and students • some experience working with Elders and/or researchers is an asset, but not required • knowledge of Chipewyan and/or Cree (spoken or written) is an asset, but not required • good reporting, communication and outreach skills PAY SCALE AND TIME COMMITMENT: This is a part-time position, with an expected time commitment of roughly 15 hours per week. Hours per week will be set through discussions with the selected candidate and the DDN project manager, and it is expected that some weeks may have more hours and some weeks may have less. Pay rate is set at $25/hour.
